The EXE VAlley panaroma -
The Exe valley from Yearlstone Vineyard - A four image photostitch showing a great view from the back of the cafe at Yearlstone Vineyard. Its a place that Tracey and I went to check out after i managed to get there on my walk about 20 minutes after closi
The Dart and dazzle of dappled light -
HARE raising - This Hare I could see, on the edge of the yonder field, as bolt upright as could be,scanning for danger, not a sound did it utter, as Bickleigh church peeled, The young leveret dangled in the long long grass, a curious expression of endear
Bickleigh Castle and Willis Farm -
The disappearing path - This is where I stopped as there was no discernible path however i scanned the area and could just see the public footpath marked in the corner of the field below, I worked out that the farm below had to be Willis farm. I really li
If Sheep ruled the world..... - On the lower slopes of the East side of the River Exe in the Exe valley lies Grattan Copse overlooking a beautiful patchwork of fields. The light entering the woodland was fantastic.
Photo Sheep shoot - "Right please get in line, anybody not interested, then please move over to the left!"
The Light Draws me onwards..... - A beautiful place to walk, Gratton Copse on the East slopes of the Exe valley.
Suncatcher serenades me -
The Churned path -
The Burn's beauty - This is the River Burn, really no more than a stream and a tributary of the River Exe but light was dancing upon the reflections from the tree's leaves and from a narrow opening in which to view, I really appreciated the contra
The Beautiful Burn - A combination of reflections and distortion due to the focus create this almost impressionistic scene. It is a view into great serenity for me.
The Exe-perspective - Having walked timidly over this suspension bridge made of wood, and chains, the view looking back looks great. The Farm in the rear is Traymill Farm.
The suspension is mounted -
The only way across -
Bickleigh in the green Swarthe -
Bickleigh & the Exe valley - Oh beautiful undulating mantle, tapestry of red and green fields, cloaked by trees. I will explore thee, one step at a time and take in your beauty breath by breath, step by step, drop by drop.
Oak Screen, Exe valley scene -
Red Campion and Gate frieze -
Harmonious undulations - Subtle light cast over the Exe valley from a fine vantage point on a green lane looking East to North-East. Altitude is 186 metres.
Shadow play -
You have to search for Cute-ness -
Festooned - At first i thought these were spider webs but on closer inspection they are the cocoons of the Bird cherry Ermine moth. You can see that the leaves have taken a battering so clearly the leaves are part of the caterpillars diet. Its amazing wh
Escape from this cocooned life!! - I believe these caterpillars are the larvae of the Bird Cherry Ermine Moth, Yponomeuta evonymellus
Lanes that languish -
Trees a plenty on undulating slopes -
Bickleigh Bridge, in light relief - The Bridge looks great at this angle, viewed with delightful foliage from some private gardens near the bus stop on the Fisherman's Cott side of the River Exe.
Up-stream -
The Indecisive Waymarker -
Bringing colour into life - I love sawflies, they are a very primitive fly but are so beautiful with their bright colours, large eyes, and just one of hundreds of species to be scene on the margins of lanes and woodlands. On my walk I could have stayed a
Cercopis Vulnerata, I presume! - An unmistakeable Froghopper, This species spends its early life feeding on underground roots, surrounded by froth. I saw several of these in one area.
Tangled branches bloom from bud -
The Duck dance - In a pond next to Bickleigh Castle, once a fortified Manor House from the 13C, a few white Ducks are flapping their wings and cleaning, like a Ducky cermemony that has to be done with gusto and in company.
The cottage on the other side - Having passed over Bickleigh bridge, you do have to be careful, as there is no particular footpath as you admire this beautiful cottage with its own garden across the road, the Little River Dart runs through the foot of the
Mushrooms of mystery -
Bickleigh Bridge in shadows - Bickleigh bridge looks even more stunning when the afternoon sun lights up the arches.
Quacking in the Face of Fury - The River Gods look on as the chick navigates the river, the parents are offering encouragement and support.
The Oaken Wander - Walking my way through Gratton Copse, with a sunlight serenade and the occasional bleat of nearby sheep, on this walk in Devon's Exe Valley, near Bickleigh.
